Stage: Youth theatre Workshops
Worthing Theatres and Chichester Festival Youth Theatre (CFYT) begin a new partnership this autumn which will provide youth theatre workshops in Worthing.
For over 30 years Chichester Festival Theatre has run youth theatre workshops for local children and young people, ranging from ages 10 to 19. Primarily based in Chichester, they have well established satellite groups across Sussex, with Worthing Theatres becoming the latest to host the award-winning classes.
Each week CFYT engages over 700 young people through their workshops, welcoming people of all abilities and a variety of backgrounds to develop their artistic, personal and social skills. Members will have the opportunity to learn new and develop existing skills including acting, improvisation, puppetry, stage combat, physical theatre and directing.
Worthing Theatres will host the CFYT workshops at the Connaught Studio, Pavilion Theatre and Assembly Hall, with the first term beginning this autumn between 20 September and 6 December.
Amanda O Reilly, Head of Culture for Adur & Worthing Council, says: “We are thrilled and very proud to be welcoming Chichester Festival Youth Theatre to Worthing, they will provide the highest quality theatre training for young theatre-lovers, which we know will encourage young people to flourish and we will see lots of local talent emerge from such a wonderful opportunity.”
Lauren Grant, Youth Theatre Manager for CFT, says: “We’re delighted to be able to add a Worthing group to our award-winning Chichester Festival Youth Theatre. Inclusive youth theatre activities can provide an essential platform for children and young people to develop a life-long enjoyment of the arts. Our new CFYT Worthing group means we can offer local young people of all abilities access to the same high quality performance workshops we run in all our existing groups, without them having to travel further afield.”
Bookings are now available for youth theatre subscriptions, priced at £60 per term, with bursaries available for families on low income. If you are interested in becoming a member of CFYT, please call the Learning, Education and Participation Department on 01243 784 437 or email cfyt@cft.org.uk
