Swimmer dies off Brighton beach on hottest day of year

A swimmer has died off Brighton Beach during the hottest week of the year.

A 44 year old man got into difficulties east of the Palace Pier at about 8pm on Tuesday.

Some of the thousands of people who flocked to the beach tried to save his life.

But Sussex Police said that the man from South West London had died despite the attempts to rescue him.

With temperatures to remain warm this weekend, 999 crews have urged anyone visiting the coast to take extra care.
