BREMF – Nature & Science – 2016 Programme Launch

Artistic Directors of the Brighton Early Music Festival Deborah Roberts and Clare Norburn introduced another star-studded programme. ‘Fresh Ayre’, Nancy Cole (mezzo) and Wezi Elliott (lute), delighted us with Jacobean lute songs and works by Vincenzo and Michelagnolo Galilei, kin of the great scientist. ‘Galileo’, Clare Norburn’s new music drama, explores his troubled life with help from The Marian Consort and the Monteverdi String Band.

Other BREMF 2016 highlights include ‘Fretwork’, celebrating 30 years as a world-class viol consort with Bach’s monumental ‘Art of Fugue’. ‘Gaia’ showcases the power of Nature, including extracts from Brumel’s Earthquake Mass and Monteverdi’s ‘Orfeo’.

CODA: BREMF Consort of Voices sings ‘Joan Cererols & the Spanish Baroque’ at St Paul’s, West Street, 6.00pm, Saturday 30 July.
