Comedy: Cup of Joe

JP-2016-2

Cup of Joe

King of the jungle, Hollywood movie actor, West End stage star, all this and more… but first and foremost Joe Pasquale is a funny man.

Mixing the silly with the rat-a-tat machine gun fire attack of constant gags, Pasquale’s latest performance sets the tone with its ‘warning: this show contains nuts’ disclaimer from the off. Promotions for the evening’s show outline a preposterously farcical plot, with puns and gags and flights of fancy flying in every direction. There’s a twin brother and a chip shop venture with the Dalai Lama. You get the idea.

Joe Pasquale is old school, but that by no means makes him old news. This man works hard, with a stage delivery that is top notch, thanks to barely a day off the boards in decades of performing.

Support comes in the form of Britain’s Got Talent star Paul Burling, who himself has been working in the business that is ‘show’ for 25 years in various guises – although he is primarily known as an impressionist.

Plus there’s the added beauty of the Royal Hippodrome. Classic comedy in classic surroundings.

Joe Pasquale – One Man And His Bog, Sunday 28 August, Royal Hippodrome, Eastbourne, 8pm, £25/19
