Ride
Mark Gardener and Andy Bell’s reformed nineties shoegaze stalwarts Ride demonstrated to a sold-out Concorde quite why their cult following remains so loyal. Fan favourites, from ‘Vapour Trail’ and ‘Taste’’s endearingly summery jangly guitar, through to the cacophonous crescendo of ‘Seagull’, proved to be great slices of indie nostalgia. Sadly, lulls between the band’s biggest hits, padded out with slower, frankly more boring, numbers, such as the surprisingly dull ‘Dreams Burn Down’ sapped the energy badly. Still, when surrounded by the gloriously intense instrumental wall of noise, midway through the swaggering ‘Drive Blind’, this transgression was more than forgiven.
