A room with a view
A sumptuous new production of A Room with a View, adapted from the E.M. Forster novel, will visit Theatre Royal Brighton in October
The play marks the welcome return to Brighton of Felicity Kendal, who last visited Theatre Royal Brighton in 2014 in Hay Fever, which went on to enjoy a successful West End run.
Felicity plays Charlotte Bartlett, the prim spinster cousin touring Italy as chaperone to the English rose Lucy Honeychurch. Charlotte is quick to step in when Lucy makes the mistake of fraternising with the lower class Mr Emerson and his son George at their Florentine pensione. However, when she witnesses Lucy and George actually kissing, she has no option but to whisk Lucy away to Rome. Back home at the family’s Surrey estate, Lucy becomes engaged to the eminently suitable but pretentious Cecil Vyse. Charlotte has sworn Lucy to secrecy over the kiss with George, but will Lucy be able to repress her feelings when she discovers that the Emersons have taken a house in the village?
