Brighton Lights – What to do in the city: 10th January

1/2

Music & Entertainment with Joe Fuller

1 A piano concerto is always a fun visual and melodic focal point for a classical newcomer, and affordable tickets for Joseph Moog playing Grieg’s piano concerto with the BPO should make for a fine concert. Rossini’s overture for the Barber of Seville and Dvořák’s Symphony No 8 round out the bill.
Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, Concert Hall, Dome, 15 Jan, 2.45pm, £12-£37

2 If you’re of a folk-minded bent then you might be interested in a Lewes excursion: Amanda Rheaume is coming to town. Plying a soulful blend of folk, country and pop, stream the deft guitar and double bass playing of ‘Not This Time’ if those genres sound appealing and you want to hear more.
Lewes Con Club, 14 Jan, 7.30pm

3 Delectably danceable, the Mirage Italo-Disco Party nights are a guaranteed source of fun, with good looking people dancing to good looking music. This could be the last ever one at Green Door Store so it should be emotional, convivial and lively. Stream ‘Slice Me Nice’ and you’ll get a feel for the fun. Plus I’ll be there so we can dance.
Green Door Store, 20 Jan, 11pm

4 If you’re a fan of filthy stories and alluringly alliterative show titles then Smut Slam could be for you. The community storytelling open-mic night features real-life first-person sex stories, will be hosted by Cameryn Moore and features our very own Victoria Nangle as a celebrity judge.
Blue Man Brighton, 12 Jan, 7pm

5 Battle those January blues with this incredible idea – an evening of comedy doubling as a collection point for the Brighton food banks! Timed to promote good will the day before Donald Trump’s inauguration, it’s a great bill featuring Doug Segal headlining, plus James Hamilton, Sameena Zehra, Juliet Meyers and other great acts supporting. Fab idea!
The Blue Man, Thursday 19 January, 7.30pm, food to the value of at least £5

6 It’s a Brighton classic – head on down to Komedia’s Krater Comedy this weekend, to catch Adam Bloom headlining Friday’s show – as well as hanging around for Saturday’s late and early performances, and the mellower Sunday gig. Plus the expected top class rest of the line up. Tuck in.
Komedia, Friday 13 January, 7pm, £16.50
