Families upset at plans to cut Stanmer Park memorial trees

Families have hit back at council plans to cut down memorial trees at Stanmer Park.

Brighton and Hove City Council wants to remove up to 76 trees at Stanmer Park as part of a project to restore it to how it looked in the 18th Century.

However, families have said that cutting down the trees would be an “act of vandalism”, with many of the trees planted in memory of relatives that have passed away.

The council’s plans involve the relocation of nine trees, and the planting of 250 more, but it is currently waiting to see if it has secured the lottery funding necessary.
