Grit’s about to go down as Met Office Level 3 cold weather alert continues
Brighton and Hove Council have issued a warning to residents today as The Met Office’s Level 3 cold weather alert continues to be in place.
In a statement, the council said: “A cold weather alert means that the main risk is low temperatures.
“We will continue to keep a close watch over the forecast and ensure that our gritting routes are well treated with salt.”

The council urged residents to take extra care on untreated roads and pavements, but also reassured people that the gritters will be out from 7pm this evening treating the full route.
A Level 3 cold weather alert requires social and healthcare services to target specific actions at high-risk groups. It is the second highest cold weather alert; level 4, the highest, means that the cold weather could present a risk to the fit and healthy as well as the vulnerable.
