Dracula

Taking the familiar story of Count Dracula and his interactions with Jonathan and Mina Harker and their associates, the Let Them Call It Mischief company took a new perspective and saw a good-natured vampire under a curse who just wanted to be loved. With some lovely touches, and a few cracking quips, a dance number, and a nifty way with scenery, this brought some fun to blood-letting with a good swipe at period patriarchy to boot. Versatile acting from the small ensemble was a must, although there was some scenery-chewing that wasn’t always in balance and not enough frequency of the aforementioned cracking quips in the script to keep it even. All in all, an enjoyable fresh and sassed-up tale – with a few shining moments.
