It’s okay, I’m dealing with it
Comedy dance? It’s a hard sell. Combining things with comedy so rarely works well; take comedy songs, for example, not as good as normal music, not as funny as straight up stand up.
Of course, as you can tell from the start rating, The Hiccup Project are the full package – genuinely good dancers, genuinely funny. It’s okay, I’m dealing with it riffs on vulnerability, whipping from an excellent improvised war against it complete with crazed viking and king costumes, to a more quiet reflection on a difficult moment in each of their lives.
At a push you could say the tonal shifts occasionally get a little confusing and the show drops just that tiny bit too much energy partway through, but those are minor quibbles in an otherwise storming, silly, sweet show that is quite unlike anything else you’ll see this year.
