Green Rooms Landscapes and Gardens: Fiveways garden highly commended
A Fiveways garden was ‘highly commended’ in an award ceremony earlier this year, organised by the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL). The garden in Havelock Road was given the award – the equivalent of coming second within its category – for projects with a value of under £20,000, at the APL Awards Showcase 2017 in central London in March this year.
The garden project was undertaken following extensive building works at the rear of the house to create a new kitchen and open up access to the garden. Building contractors had already dug back the rough shape of the lower patio area, when Green Rooms Landscape & Gardens were taken on to create garden design drawings and complete the landscaping work and planting.
The family garden catches both the morning and evening sun
The design brief was to create a family garden with an upper and lower patio to catch both the morning and evening sun. As the garden was very overlooked, privacy was crucial, and this was achieved through the use of horizontal timber screening to enclose the whole garden. Good low maintenance planting was essential to complete the design, and a focal point at the rear of the garden was created using a corten steel sheet with a rusted finish that was cut into a circle. The garden was described by judges as being soft and appealing to the eye, completed to a very high standard and a great transformation.
