Footloose

Everyone remembers the hit ’80s musical which was Kevin Bacon’s finest hour. Everyone, that is, apart from the director of this stage adaptation. Turning a movie with a great soundtrack into a stage musical was never going to be easy but I expected better. If Footloose is about the right to dance, then why make the cast play the instruments? It’s not easy to dance when you have to play a saxophone at the same time. It’s not easy to watch a musical when your head is cocked to the side as you wonder “Why did they do it that way?”.
