Hove fly-tipper fined for illegally dumping waste
A Hove man has been fined £1,000 after illegally dumping rubbish close to Upperton Barn Visitors Centre in Pulborough. He committed the offence in April last year.
Essam Bakarat has been fined £440, and ordered to pay an additional £500 in compensation, after admitting to failing to secure the transfer of controlled waste to an authorised person
He was also told to pay a victim surcharge of £44 and prosecution costs of £85.
Cllr Philip Circus, cabinet member for Waste Recycling and Cleansing at Horsham District Council, said that the council has a “zero tolerance approach to environmental crime” and said it costs the council around £80,000 a year to clear up after fly-tippers.
He emphasised the serious damage fly-tipping has on the environment and that any known cases of fly-tipping should be reported to the council.
