alt-J took us all, with abandon, on an incredible live music adventure. The scope of their work to date is vast and rich, with new album ‘Relaxer’ as dynamic as the other two. Varied styles, tones and moods morphed within tracks as well as across albums, whilst still remaining cohesive. Whispers of folk influence are powerful and composed in a palate and arrangement that is unconventional and exciting. In lead singer, Joe Newman, it felt like we were in the thrall of a Master of Ceremonies, deftly guiding us through the labyrinthine set. The rich and textured musical layers combined a with stunning light show to bring on an awesome whole body experience.
