Stand Up and Slam

Stand Up and Slam sees comedians and poets battle it out freestyle, for audience votes. Spoken word poet Dan Simpson’s incredible wordplay and academic puns scanned perfectly. His first act Paul Cree kept it real with giggle inducing raps. Edgy Muslim comic Tez Ilyas and funny men Rich Wilson and James Harris battled the poets. Tez upped the comedy stakes with quick witted quips, stories and pride in the Muslim community, who have a hit TV show: ‘The News’. Sophie Brown’s poetic political insights about Boris Johnson and his BJ party tricks had the audience weeping with laughter. This fun night saw the comics narrowly win a well fought battle of words.
