Lucky Beach recognised for its work outside the kitchen
Brighton restaurant, Lucky Beach, voted the most sustainable in the country has been recognised for its charitable work.
The restaurant on King’s Road, Brighton, was voted the most sustainable in the Delicious Magazine awards last month.
Lucky Beach is focused on supporting the areas from which they source their food. This month staff contributed a day’s pay towards building a medical centre in a village in Rwanda, where they get their coffee beans.
All of the day’s takings were also donated to the cause, with around £6,000 raised for the centre.
Last year the restaurant ran a similar event when it raised £8,000 to build a school in the same village.
It was for this fundraising effort that Lucky Beach won the national accolade – voted for by the public.
Lucky Beach manager, Flora McTeare, said: “It is great to get involved and help build the medical centre too.
“Staff were more than happy to do it and be a part of the project.”
She added that the fundraiser will become an annual event at the restaurant.
