BREMF – Festival Preview Day

Exploring the Roots of Western Music: Where all festivals attempt community outreach, Brighton Early Music Festival (BREMF) excels! With the usual concessionary rates, free tickets for under-12s and special shows for under-5s, BREMF also offers free talks and taster concerts to enlighten supposed know-it-alls like me.

Today’s entertaining and instructive banquet eloquently covered the origins of instruments and of opera, and compared music from the East and West. We also heard how nuns developed their own style of polyphony and how early opera and improvisation have a key place in today’s festival programming. I had fun and learned a lot.

CODA: BREMF: 30 events until 12 November.
Special thanks to Guitar, Amp & Keyboard Centre for providing an emergency power cable.
