BREMF LIVE! – Shifting Identities – Istante Classical
While not quite early music, this programme illustrated the seemingly haphazard development of the Classical style in the works of Georg Druschetzky and the Haydn brothers. The strong, almost metallic sound of Nicola Barbagli’s oboe made it a very dominant solo part in the first movement of Druschetzky’s Quartet for oboe and string trio (1806). Joseph Haydn’s Op.53 No.3 string trio Andante (1784) sounded much more Classical than his younger brother Michael’s Rondo from Divertimento in B flat (1774) for a disparate selection of instruments.
