From the editor: Seasons fleeting

vix

I do love Christmas. Sometimes I think I love the anticipation even more than the event itself. Which might explain why I’m thinking about it when it’s still November and not complaining with everyone else about how the adverts on telly have suddenly got tinsel in them.

I like to make a dent in my Christmas shop throughout the year if I can, so as to be able to get just the right present for just the right person, as it occurs to me. My godson has had a signed copy of Eddie Izzard’s autobiography tucked away in a corner of a chest for him since the “covered-in-bees” one toured a few months ago. Plus, ‘tis the season for me to start turning up at craft fairs and setting up stall with my homemade knits. The chill has started, the heating is on, and I’m knitting bed socks in front of The Walking Dead merrily.

With all of this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that I’m thrilled to have the chance to check out even more Christmas goodies in this week’s gift guide (p6). My interest has been piqued by promises of retro treats and Brighton board games. More tailored presents for family and friends seem to be appearing on my horizon.

The weeks go by so very quickly throughout the year, I just don’t want to blink and miss these ones. It’s colder and darker, the days are shorter, I’ll sneeze on Tuesday and by the time someone has said “bless you” it’s Thursday already. I’m not mad on shopping crowds either, so it completely suits me to get all of my prep ready and done for Christmas before the hoards hit their stride and panic starts to arrive at the corner of friends’ eyes.

So join me for a mince pie now. It’s delicious.
