New shopping destination in Brighton’s North Laine

A former Australian barmaid has opened a new Bazaar in the North Laine. Rachel Hogg dreamed of opening a city bazaar – a permanently covered marketplace – that would display the creativity that Brighton & Hove has to offer.

The quirky new shopping destination on Upper Gardner Street has 40 different stalls, selling everything from clothing to independently produced furniture and upcycled vintage wares.

Despite only opening on Saturday almost all the stalls have already been snapped up.

Rachel Hogg, who runs the bazaar along with her partner, Steve Savage said: “I’ve always been a huge charity shop fan and we love second hand recycling.”

Rachel was, until recently, working as a barmaid in Hove. She is well known on the pub scene and has even won Brighton’s LGBT-friendly Golden Handbags award for Best Bar Girl on several occasions.

The bazaar will open every day. From Monday – Friday it will open from 10am – 5pm, Saturdays from 10am – 5.30pm and Sundays from 10.30am – 4.30pm.

On 1 December a vintage clothing and accessories shop will open on the first floor.

Miss Hogg eventually plans to open a garden centre at the rear of the bazaar.
