Music Of Our Time: Music for Two Pianos
From eight hands to sixteen, this was a concert that explored the scope of working with two pianos and a large group of pianists in a programme that was truly entertaining. Most importantly though it embraced a group of pianists of varying abilities – none of them I might add less than very capable of playing to a high standard – and all of them seeming to enjoy the experience. Local MP Caroline Lucas was even there and not just as a guest but to play! The programme, which had a balance of old and new works, new arrangements too, really challenged both performers and audience alike. Crowd pleasers like Scott Joplin’s The Entertainer ripped along, Bartok’s Chords and Trills delighted and a new piece of ragtime put the pianists through their syncopated paces. It was fun for sure but it was also a wonderful example of how important it is for people to listen to each other, whether playing together or listening to music and of course, as Caroline Lucas pointed out, in all aspects of modern life. It would be churlish to not award the maximum number of stars to this delightful event from MOOT.
