The Snow Queen – Ballet Theatre UK

This conventional interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale is ideal for young fans enjoying their first full-length ballet. The carefully chosen music fits each mood of the plot which is clearly presented, easy to follow and not too alarming, although the Snow Queen herself seemed pretty stern. Her story, however, is not as entrancing as the ensemble work of the corps de ballet. The romping wolves, the dancing flowers and that really funny business with a plate of cakes were far more inventive and entertaining. They changed costumes and characters so often you’d think the company was twice the size.
