Palestinian Musicians in Concert

Prize-winning pianist, Iyad Sughayer, began most delicately with Lizst’s evocative ‘Bells of Geneva’. He also accompanied Tibah Saad (cello), Omar Saad (viola) and Wissam Boustany (flute) in a varied programme of works by Schumann, Dvořák, Bowen and Tarek Younis. Two movements from Bach suites for solo strings expressed a subtle melancholy.

This event in support of Palestinian musicians attracted a capacity audience that raised the roof with applause for the pianistic pyrotechnic of the first movement from Khatchaturian’s Piano Sonata but I bet the memory they took home was of the beautifully poignant Palestinian encore given by the whole ensemble.
