Kiss of the Spider Woman

Kiss of the Spiderwoman tells the story of two inmates in an Argentian prison; gay Molina and straight Valentin, and the intimate relationship that they embark upon.

The action takes place in a grey prison cell, with the only colour coming from projections, which illustrate the tales that Molina tells to raise their spirits. This gives the production a claustrophobic quality, which draws the audience in.

The two central performances are beautifully acted and believable. The sometime graphic content is handled sensitively, which gives the relationship further credence. Even though we know the relationship would be doomed in the real world, the fantasy ending can’t help but warm the heart.
