This Boy Tom: Local children perform a musical about bullying at school

- May 7, 2018

Brighton-based JW Productions presents the acclaimed new musical from local writer Natalie Sexton. This Boy Tom is a unique professional musical, performed entirely by 9–14 year-olds, at The Old Courtroom during Brighton Fringe 2018.

The Story
It’s been two years since the fire, when Tom lost his little brother. Tom starts at a new school and is bullied for the way he looks, but with new girl Flora’s arrival is it time for something new? It’s a life-affirming story of acceptance, courage and friendship ideal for 10-16 yr olds.

The cast of talented young performers are made of actors from across the region, some of whom already have West-End credits to their name.

Eliot Milward said, “I play Tom, the show is all about the life of the person being bullied… how they feel and how devastating bullying can be for someone… but it’s also fun and its’ a great show that everyone should see.”

Clara Shepherd-Thompson, who plays new girl Flora said’ “It really teaches you about bullying and I feel it has a moral.”

A winner of the BBC Musical Theatre Award, Natalie’s training was sponsored at the prestigious London School of Musical Theatre. Since then, credits have included performing at the BBC Proms (BBC2, BBC Radio 3, Royal Albert Hall) Glastonbury Festival, large pantomimes, tours and theatre shows. She has been the voice of animated character Alfie in Ghost Boy, a brand new series for children (United Magic). Natalie has cast and directed many productions (The Wind in The Willows, The Adventures of Pinocchio) and runs a children’s casting agency.
