Ladyface
Lucy Farrett’s Ladyface show was a great collection of comic characters, fast-paced and full of frenetic energy – even as the quieter characters took centre stage their cores buzzed. Highlights included the pox-ridden poet waif of the Middle Ages and a particularly foul-mouthed Valley Girl Barbie, with snapshots of sweetly twisted darkness mining humour off the regular beaten track, giving an almost ‘punk’ feel to show. There was an undercurrent of almost danger in the unhinged personas Farrett had so carefully created.
Very well crafted for the vast part of the show, leading to a drop in concentrated barbs and morphing into something of a sketch of its earlier glory towards the end, Ladyface is nonetheless a great showcase for the impressive talents of Lucy Farrett.
