Stage: Staying Festive
As brighton Festival 2018 draws to a close and Brighton Fringe has just a few more days to go it’s good to take a look across the county to see what theatrical delights are still to come.
Over in Chichester their festival has already started. This summer-long season is always a feast of great new productions and brilliant revivals, and their ability to stage great musicals is perhaps second to none with most ending up transferring to the West End for long runs. This year that is likely to be Me And My Girl starring Matt Lucas in the cheeky leading role. Before that a sure-fire night of great theatre is bound to be The Chalk Garden starring the wonderful Penelope Keith. For full details of the full season go to cut.org.uk
Over in Glyndebourne their summer festival opened with Madama Butterfly and Der Rosenkavalier and continues with productions of Giuliani Cesare, Pélleas et Mélisande, Saul and Vanessa. Their production of Saul, this year revived, is a spectacular of immense proportions that sees this world-famous company at their very best, truly unmissable. And Glyndebourne is not just for the rich and famous with affordable tickets in the festival and particularly later in the year when their tour season opens.
We are truly blessed with fabulous theatre
In Worthing their Summer of Circus ten-day festival opens on Friday 22 June and runs until Sunday 1 July, where they will welcome a host of circus companies including Gandini Juggling, NoFit State Circus and Motionhouse, Compania Vavel Circus, Oddly Moving, and Dizzy O Dare.
This rich programme of circus arts surely represents the emergence of circus to the UK’s entertainment scene.
