Joseph Morpurgo: Hammerhead
A show about theatre and pretension – lambasting pretension majestically and in so many different ways it is delicious succour to the senses. Joseph Morpurgo’s Hammerhead is packed with well crafted surprises and innovations, each with its own purpose, adding up to a whole that entertains and communicates the protagonist’s journey into obsession with his own creation – an enjoyable parallel with his fictitous one-man theatre-piece of ‘Frankenstein’ the structure of the show instructs that we have just seen.
Hammerhead is impressive, an accessible powerhouse, captivating at every turn, uncovering fresh humour again and again in its drive to never stop. Much like Dr Frankenstein’s unending pursuit of his own creation in Shelley’s text.
