Hairspray

The hottest thing in Eastbourne this week isn’t the weather or tennis but a scorching production of Hairspray. The small yet potent band, the compact, adaptable set, the emotive lighting and transformations, but most of all the explosively energetic singing and dancing of this highly talented and enthusiastic cast stoked our sultry Monday evening into a furnace of fun. The irrepressible decency of Baltimore’s brassy Turnblad family, the courage and class of Motormouth Maybelle’s spirited clan and the magical power of all those excellent songs make this an evening to treasure.
