Tales from the Margins: Episode 6 – Slay part 2 – Tonight 9pm

We are showing the documentary SLAY over two weeks, together with a conversation with filmmaker Cha Roque and the LGBTIQ performance artist and advocate Floyd Scott Tiogangco who is portrayed in this documentary.

It’s a film from the Philippines, and SLAY adds to a wonderful and strong line of inspiring queer Filipino films. However, it has a different perspective than most: it does not focus on the emotional context of sexual orientation and “coming out,” or on the political battles for equality and representation – instead, filmmaker Cha Roque explores issues of sexual orientation and gender identity or gender expression, and shows how non-conformative gender expression results in discrimination in the Philippines.
