Hofesh Shechter Company: Show
A pounding tribal drum brought a sense of foreboding as the innovative, eight-strong ensemble danced and mock-fought in silhouette and spotlight. Shechter’s own soundtrack was as vital as the passionate dancers with a menacing heavy breathing and heavy percussion propelling a partly-sensuous, largely-murderous performance, led by mischievous ringmaster Neal Maxwell. The body count was as high as the tension throughout as the malevolent marionettes seduced then joyfully dispatched each other, only to be instantly reanimated and killed again. The synchronicity and stamina of the company was outstanding and nothing was held back in this dark and boisterous, twisted vaudevillian tour-de-force.
