Bid to help the Homeless
If you’ve ever wanted to help the growing number of homeless people on our streets now’s your chance – while bagging an indulgent treat at the same time. Sussex Homeless Support – a volunteer-run charity funded entirely by your donations – is currently running an online auction but you’ll have to hurry as it winds up on March 14 at 8pm!
Winter is the hardest time of the year for homeless people and it is the time that the charity’s funds are most stretched, so please support this fantastic fundraiser at https://jumblebee.co.uk/
There are 75 amazing lots on offer, including goodie bags donated by the BRIT Awards, a one day TV skills taster course with Latest TV, a gorgeous pink guitar, rainbow cake from Cloud 9, highlights, cut & blowdry from Gorgeous Hair and your chance to feature in a new book by authors Cair Going & Nils Visser, which will be loosely based on Sussex Homeless Support and the characters connected to the charity.
Every Sunday the charity feeds more than 120 people at a street kitchen near the clocktower
The charity supports homeless people and rough sleepers in Brighton and surrounding areas. Every Sunday it feeds more than 120 at a street kitchen at Brighton’s Clocktower and each Monday over 60 people are fed through the Antifreeze Project. It makes up weekly food parcels for people in temporary accommodation, ex-servicemen and those on the poverty line. It has also converted two buses on the seafront into night shelters, accommodating a total of 20 people and their pets. Hot meals and drinks are supplied and volunteer advisers are on hand to chat, support and signpost people to helpful services.
If by the time you read this, the auction has ended, don’t despair. Oliver Dall of Oliver’s Brighton (the Wizarding shop) is hosting a special exhibition throughout the month of June in My Brighton hotel, culminating in a charity auction in their award-winning cocktail bar Merkaba on Friday 5th of July from 18.00. With around 40 pieces of original artwork and with every penny going to SHS, this is a must for your social calendar.
