Extinction Rebellion and Black Lives Matter organise Brighton march
Extinction Rebellion and Black Lives Matter organise march along Brighton seafront calling for climate and social justice.
At midday on Saturday (29/08), Extinction Rebellion protestors will gather at The Royal Pavillion Gardens before marching along the seafront.
A Facebook event for the march states that the “climate crisis, climate justice and the struggle for social justice, sounded by Black Lives Matter and others, are interconnected.
They are consequences of a system and a government that is failing to protect its people.”
Extinction Rebellion groups from Lewes, Shoreham and Worthing are also involved.
Currently 121 people have responded ‘going’ to the Facebook event.
The march is part of a wider series of events taking place across the bank holiday weekend.
The day also marks the beginning of a mass bike ride from Brighton to London.
The final event is a march and sit-in in Parliament Square, London.
It is the first joint event held by the two protest groups.

Black Lives Matter Brighton have held three protests in the city since June.
The group have emphasised the relationship between the two campaigns.
“We cannot ignore the intersection between the climate crisis and the profound and more frequent occurrences
of black and POC (women in particular) being the victim of climate change,” the group said in a statement on Instagram.
“Climate change is is the result of a legacy of extraction, of colonialism, of slavery”.
Protests are also planned in London, Bristol, Leeds and Cardiff.
A rally against the expansion of Gatwick Airport is also expected.
Anyone attending the event is advised to wear a mask and to socially distance.
