Further Update on the Brighton Gasworks Housing Proposal from Val Vizor
Latest TV News Editor, Mark Walker, speaks to Val Vizor from the Brighton Gasworks Campaign Group in this interview. St William, part of The Berkeley Group, wants to build between 600 and 700 homes on the site of the old gas works in east Brighton, across two hectares of land at the junction of Marina Way and Roedean Road. About 2,000sqm of employment space is also included in the plans, as well as open spaces for the community and residential gardens. An application has not yet been made to Brighton and Hove City Council and St William is currently in the consultation stage. Val Vizor, who lives in Cliff Road just behind the gas works site, says residents are against the proposals. The 75-year-old said: “We are all up in arms about the height and density of the flats and the lack of community planning, but we are most concerned about our health and our children’s health”.
