BREMF – BIRDS, BUGS & OTHER BEASTS – Spiritato
BREMF never talks down to its audience. A glance at the poster will tell you that this concert is in the ever-popular BREMF Tots series for discerning youngsters (and their management teams).
They will have noted Spiritato’s players, Kinga Ujszászi (violin), Alice Manthorpe-Saunders (cello) and Sergio Bucheli (theorbo), in what looks like an untidy office space, perhaps warming up with the opening bars of Biber’s Violin Sonata No. 1. As the music gets more elaborate the roaming camera presents some colourful puppets but when puppeteer Delyth Taylor begins the story she starts with the plastic rubbish. This explains the untidiness of the room and tots of any age will be indignant at all that ecological damage.
While the puppets play out their pageant, the music, an ingenious menagerie from Biber’s Sonata Representativa, continues with a host of delightful effects.
This clear, well-told story is available on YouTube for one week.
