Lo Polidoro with Nigel Broderick at PierFest
The term ‘support’ should not be applied here, Playing before Andrew Farr’s brilliant Edit Piaf show was a perfect pairing for these two brilliant musicians who sublimely capture the atmosphere of Parisian cabaret with a stunning set of beautiful and occasionally funny songs, some familiar some less so but all brilliant.
But what sets them apart is the very high standard of musicianship displayed by this duo fantastique! Nigel is an impressive accordionists, it has to faced that there is little doubt that his cheeky personality and flirty style would have made him prey for Piaf and dare I suggest it, sorry Lo, he would have been easy game. On a serious note though, he plays beautifully, expertly and with note perfect precision and period style. Anyone who has seen them play at The Paris House in Hove, or caught their impressive stream of live events on social media will of course know this already and also know that both are accomplished musicians.
Partner in music, and in life, Lo is a truly gifted vocalist who delivers each song with passion and with skill, an impressive vocal range is matched by an ability to act a song, to interpret the lyric that few can achieve.
This was a stand-alone set that simply added to an evening of Gallic charm that lacked only the scent of garlic and Gitanes, and richly deserved the ovation that an enthralled audience gave them.
