Guantanamo Bay with Lewes Amnesty Group

January 11th marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of Guantanamo Bay detention centre. The Lewes Amnesty Group is taking action in collaboration with the Brighton University Amnesty Society to demand closure of the detention centre. Their first event was a screening of The Mauritanian in the Depot Cinema, followed by a Q&A with the director and Mohamedou Ould Salahi, who’s autobiography the film is based on. Mohamedou was detained at Guantanamo Bay for 14 years without trial, where he suffered 70 days of intensive torture.

The Lewes Amnesty Group also hold a demonstration to raise awareness of the 39 remaining detainees, kept there unlawfully now 20 years after the 9/11 attacks.
