Entertainment News – Pay the Piper – Round the Horne
Welcome to Latest Entertainment News with Andrew Kay!
In the second edition of Entertainment News, we look at one of the worlds best and most prestigious opera houses, Glyndebourne.
Glyndebourne was once perceived as being an elitist venue but these days nothing could be further from the truth. The organisation not only holds an annual festival but also a tour and a thriving education department with a stunningly accomplished youth opera.
Pay the Piper, the first youth opera production since 2017, has been jointly composed by the four participants of Balancing the Score, a development programme exclusively for female composers, created by Glyndebourne to help address the underrepresentation of female composers in classical music.
Next, we go to Round the Horne at Theatre Royal Brighton.
Growing up my Sunday lunch was often to a soundtrack on the wireless, yes that dates me, of Round the Horne. I laughed and laughed, but in hindsight I don’t know why. The entire show was riddled with saucy innuendo. It’s hard to imagine how in the squeaky clean 1960s the BBC got away with it.
You can experience exactly what I am talking about when Round The Horne plays for one night only at Theatre Royal Brighton.
