Covering Ukraine with Latest TV

Welcome to Covering Ukraine from the UK Local Television Network. The Local Television Network is made up of dozens of channels on TV and online, serving communities across the UK from Bristol to Belfast.

With the Russian invasion beginning last month, we wanted to hear directly from local people in Ukraine. In times of conflict, it’s difficult for TV stations to broadcast, but many have persevered. We spoke to Alla in Kyiv, who has been broadcasting locally and globally since the violence erupted, and Julia, who was working in the cultural scene of Ukraine which was alive and well before the invasion began. Unsurprisingly, she’s now more worried about her family and friends.

Ukraine has a rich history of cultural traditions, music, art, theatre and poetry, shaped by the region’s long and complex history, and actor Seth Morgan reads us a poem from the country. There has been an outpouring of people offering to help, and we spoke to someone who has done more than just offer. Jim Deans runs the Sussex Homeless Support charity and Bill caught up with him to find out just what it is he’s doing.
