Laser Harps by Tom Freer – with Yael Breuer
Thomas Freer is a craftsman, sculptor, technician and electronics engineer. He also has experience in working with children with additional needs and providing therapeutic education. It may be of no surprise, therefore, that the combination of his skills and talents has resulted in beautifully crafted, technologically advanced and therapeutic Musical Sculptures.
Visiting his workshop on Worthing Seafront was magical- immediately upon entering the workshop, one is surrounded by laser harps which respond to movement and touch and produce beautiful, calming sounds. Tom explains that the concept originated during research work with children and young adults with a range of additional needs. “It was clear that there was a need for interactive sensory objects that were less clinical looking and more natural and gentle,” he said.
Tom exhibits his musical sculptures and timberharps at festivals and events while various organisations such as hospitals and schools as well as individuals enjoy the benefits of having their own laser harp.
