Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak fined over Partygate

The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak have been notified that they will be fined for the recent scandal of parties that were held in parliament over lockdown in 2020.

The fixed penalty due to an investigation done by the Metropolitan Police, concluded that both the prime minister and the chancellor of the exchequer broke the laws they implemented during lockdown. Mr Johnson has since issued an apology over the scandal, and will become the first prime minister to have broken the law, and received an punishment.

The Prime Minister also faces calls to quit from the Labour Party and SNP amid claims that his ability to sustain his position is ‘’untenable’’ despite his apology. No 10 has confirmed that Boris Johnson had been fined for attending his birthday part in the Cabinet Room in 2020, with highly enforced lockdown rules in police, where the Northern Ireland Minister Conor Burns claimed Mr Johnson was ‘’ambushed by a cake’’.

A recent poll by YouGov revealed 57% of people think Mr Johnson should retire, with 2,464 adult votes implying that Sunak retire as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
