A Celebration of Black Authors – Afrori Books

Afrori Books is Brighton’s first black owned business which promotes and celebrates books of black origin.

Already running a successful online bookshop for more than a year, Afrori Books was formed in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests in July last year, by founder Carolynn Bain.

The online book offering was so popular that Carolynn moved forward plans to meet demands and open a book shop in Brighton. The launch was supported by Brighton’s local community, with £10,000 raised through crowdfunding within days of being launched. Carolynn has continued to make local history and enhance representation through a range of local led workshops and events. This June, Carolynn has teamed up with other local leaders to establish Brighton’s first book festival.
