Electric Vehicles Silently Make Their Mark in Brighton!
The second Electric Vehicle Rally has taken place with numerous Electric Vehicles driving from London to Brighton.
The range of vehicles this year was quite amazing including ‘high powered’ sports cars to commercial vehicles including Buses, a Brighton City Dust Cart (who knew we had those in the City), Motor Bikes (without engines) that just flew along, plus others that were eye openers to many including, by the way, an electric powered Aircraft that flew over the finish line just after mid-day.
One competitor drove to the seafront in a fully electric Porsche, the driver had always owned Aston Martins before and never dreamed of driving an electric powered car let alone a Porsche. He said as he came in that he would never drive anything but electric in the future and his new Porsche was head and shoulders above his gas guzzling Aston. These sentiments came across loud and clear from just about everyone who finished the rally in style and dare I say, almost in silence.
One driver from the Netherlands told me he drove his ‘Van’ all the way from Amsterdam to London and then onto Brighton and there is still some charge left. He told me he had only charged the van once during the entire journey. Now that’s impressive.
There were a lot of Tesla’s on the road this day, all types from the very latest to the ones that were a couple of years old. I was impressed with the electric version of the ‘Mini Moke’, these are built in France and sold in the UK.
Without a doubt, the future IS electric, with cars now going a lot further than the early days, average now on a full charge is between 250 to 300 miles, there are rapid charge areas all over the country now, plus charging posts all over our City.
