Wonderful Opportunities

In a change to our usual heads ups we have news of a new production at the excellent New Venture Theatre. Their season includes a new adaptation by Gerry McCrudden of the classic movie It’s A Wonderful Life and the auditions are open to anyone. Yes you don’t have to be a member to audition, but you will need to join if you are successfully cast in a production. It’s a wonderful film for sure but judging by the excellent work we have seen at NVT over the years this will no doubt be a wonderful staged realisation.

Auditions take place on the 24th & 25th of September with call backs on the 2nd of October and performance dates from the 9th to 17th of December.

Frankie Howerd was one of Britain’s most loved comedians for half a century. But he had a secret. And the secret’s name was Dennis. In a brand new play by Mark Farrelly, creator of the acclaimed Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope, you are taken you to the heart of Frankie and Dennis’ clandestine relationship, which lasted from the 1950s until Frankie’s death in 1992. It also affords a glorious opportunity to encounter Frankie in full-flight stand up mode. Packed with laughter, but unafraid of truth, Howerd’s End portrays their journey through closeness, love, grief, and all the other things that make life worth living. Howerd remained in the closet to most people until his death and his lover Dennis had to live with that, a fact of life for so many people for so long.

Howerd’s End is at The Grove Theatre in Eastbourne on September the 24th.

Tickets for Howerd’s End available here!
