UKRAINIAN FILM SUNDAY

This Sunday 24th September, Nataliya Valda, General director of the PTAKH Ukraine International Film Festival in UK, presents two Ukrainian films; Malevich and The Giraffe.

MALEVICH

Director: Volodymyr Lutskiy (2020)

The story of a well-known artist, Kazymir Malevich and his influence on twentieth century art. Revealing the Ukrainian origin of Malevich, the influence of Ukrainian culture on his personality and creativity is the main purpose of the film, alongside the aim to return the name Malevich to Ukrainian culture. The viewer has a unique opportunity to see a cinema screenplay written by the artist in 1930, to view little-known archival footage with the artist, photos of his paintings with computer graphics, as well as memoirs of his relatives and numerous art historians, gallerists and architects from Ukraine, Poland, Netherlands, Belarus and France.

THE GIRAFFE – SHORT FILM

Director: Anastasiia Kirii (2017)

A little girl from a Jewish family tries to escape her subconscious from the horrors of war, but the tough reality breaks through now and then, trying to take away the girl’s last source of hope, guarded only by a little toy once given with love.
