UKRAINIAN FILM SUNDAY – 15 OCTOBER

Nataliya Valda, a Ukrainian film curator and film festival director, presents two more Ukrainian films this coming weekend.

The first is Fight for Ukraine,  and the second is Veryovka Choir.

FIGHT FOR UKRAINE

“Fight for Ukraine” is a short experimental film that  tells the story of the first months of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, showing the horrors of war and destruction, composing a real chronicle with filmed plot scenes. This film was created by Andrii Zaiets without a budget just with a volunteer team. I would say it’s rather an emotional expression about the war and exactly this point of view is an interesting feature of this film. The film received many different awards at the International Film festivals.

VERYOVKA CHOIR

The documentary musical film Veryovka Choir is telling the story of creation and existence of the world-famous National Honored Academic Folk Choir of Ukraine.

The authors of this film have created a powerful means to convey more clearly the sensual atmosphere of Ukrainian ethnicity to the younger generation and beyond.

Volodymyr Shpak – Director & editor of music video

‘The main idea of our film – to explore how Ukrainian song leads and changes the fate of the choir artists, reveal the true stories of the collective in the faces, decisions and sacrifices they had to make to create the organism of the choir. Unfortunately, most ordinary people do not know what the titanic work is behind the veil of a ready-made composition. In the film the viewer is shown a curtain of preparations for the rehearsals of the choir of the present modern collective of the National Honored Academic Folk Choir named after Grygoriy Veryovka. Specifically for the film, four contemporary video clips for Ukrainian folk songs were designed and created.

‘Originality and high art of execution, musicality and flexibility of phrasing, amazing variety of voices, combination of emotionality and restraint, emotional openness and friendly humor, purity and immediacy – this is what the National Ukrainian folk Choir named after Grygoriy Veryovka fascinated and aroused the hearts of fans of the song. The activity and creativity of the choir is unique throughout the world, revealing a history of preserving Ukrainian ethnic and folklore values over the centuries, which will allow the viewer to be proud of their national heritage. ‘
