MISS HOPE SPRINGS: Christmas Agogo

Dazzling star of the international cabaret scene Miss Hope Springs is the most extraordinary creation. Ex Vegas show girl from a shady trailer park trash background, Miss Hope has touted her talents in Berlin burlesque, Parisian cabaret bars and anywhere a girl in a sparkling frock can find a piano and sing.

And sing Miss Hope can – and will. Her repertoire is vast, haunting ballads, bitter diatribes, plaintive love songs and much, but not all, bejewelled with camp comedy, She’s lived the life and she has catalogued much of it in beautifully crafted music and lyrics.

But time may be running out, her classic but un-aired Granada TV Christmas special is lost in the mists of time, but those mists go back to an era of TV variety shows, no doubt filmed in black and white.

So how old is the legend? Well the truth is that Miss Hope is heading into retirement, a sad fact that makes it so important that you take what might be the final curtain for this captivating creation.

Miss Hope Springs delivers a parting salvo of wit and wisdom this Christmas before heading off to who knows where, maybe a Miami high security twilight home, or a convent in Provence, maybe just back to her camper van home on the pebbles at Dungeness with her husband Irving and his “pal” the hairdresser Carlos.

This is unmissable stuff, an act that has become a favourite of many west end, TV and movie stars. Jonathan Ross described her as “The greatest star that never was sings the greatest hits that never were”and Marc Almond says “Clever, classy, funny…The songs are genius go see!”.

They are right, and here in Brighton we have one more chance to catch this iconic cabaret legend before she disappears in a flurry of sequins and a whiff of Sauvignon blanc.

Miss Hope Springs plays Ironworks Studios this Sunday when she will revive that lost Granada special, Christmas Agogo, for one final time.  You would be a fool to miss this multi-award winning star before she hands over the reins to her “pal” the amazingly talented Ty Jeffries!
