As Earl’s disembodied voice narrates, he confronts a cascade of humiliating and painful memories, questions the nature of death and negotiates trippy existential visuals for good measure. Earl reflects on the absurdities/indignities of his life, from embarrassing childhood mishaps to adult regrets. In a final, irreverent revelation, Earl’s darkly humorous musings reach a grim conclusion.
