Golden Girls Re-imagined: Grit, Glam & New Beginnings with Barb Jungr

Award-winning singer-songwriter Barb Jungr joins Andrew Kay to talk about her fiercely funny and deeply moving new play, a musical version of The Golden Girls, with all the songs and all the sass, but firmly rooted in the realities of midlife women today.

Set in Worthing, this third-act comedy begins when a woman, recently divorced and stuck with a house she can’t afford and finds herself sharing it with her sharp-tongued mother, a fashion-forward friend who is broke, and a renter who’s just buried her own mother and is finally ready to start living.

What follows is a celebration of female friendship, late bloomers, and life beyond the rules. Think Golden Girls with grit, grace, and the unmistakable vim of women who know themselves and are just getting started.
